Church of My Dreams: By Tim Kernan
2 Corinthians 12:19
Have you been thinking all along that we have been defending ourselves to you? We have been speaking in the sight of God as those in Christ; and everything we do, dear friends, is for your strengthening.
Its been an amazing time here in London over the past half year. Leaving LA and Toronto before that was so painful because we left so many incredible relationships behind. That’s one thing in the Kingdom, your always missing people and thinking about people that you cant always be with. I never thought I would get so mushy as I get older but I find that I can cry at the drop of a hat when I’m thinking about some of the people I miss in all the churches. That being said we have to get a grip sometimes and figure out what it is that the Lord wants us to do. In the past six months the job has been to build up and strengthen the church here in London.
I won’t forget how fast the church multiplied and how the resources seemed to appear out of thin air so that from the first day we landed until our inaugural service the church multiplied by over five hundred percent and we had over a hundred people out to celebrate with us. I won’t forget all the difficult bible studies and the fruit of repentance that was produced in the following months as we brought the church up to the standard of Jesus in terms of keeping our life and our doctrine together. As short as we were in terms of time and money God always provided what we needed.
I’m so excited to announce that my wife Lianne has informed me that she is now pregnant! The picture above is little baby Kernan. You cant see it in the still shot but there is a heart there pumping away like a little helicopter. I found it incredible to see that the little organs are already operating and that the baby is growing so fast! I wonder how that little body can sustain a heart that pumps so fast and all the work of growth. Lianne has kept herself on a very good diet and she takes regular naps to make sure the baby gets everything it needs to keep growing.
In a lot of ways the church here is the same way. I find it incredible that we are six months ahead of our plan and as of today I can announce that we now have five bible talks! We have regular weekly bible talk meetings in the West, Center, East, North and South! Its amazing that so many brothers and sisters have stepped up to leadership roles and are trying their best to imitate Jesus. We now have pulled an accountant in through a courageous restoration and our administrators are 100% on top of all of our legal requirements, taxes, incorporation, Charity status, etc. We have two great brothers who are going to be kicking off our kids class very shortly. We have a services coordinator who frees me to be focused on guests and disciples on Sunday mornings. Our Internet ministry has found new life with a webmaster who is putting up our Sunday sermons in our Media Page.
This much structure and growth for such a small mission team seems overwhelming, however like a little baby God has plans to grow us far beyond what we think possible. We are not building an infrastructure for a cute neighborhood church, we are building a church that will turn the world upside down in this generation. We are a refugee camp for the disciples in our former fellowship who will one by one realize that even if some people say things are getting better they actually aren’t. We are a door into the Kingdom of the millions of lost souls who God wants to bring into a sold out church for the forgiveness of sins. We are dedicated to building a church that will build churches in places like Paris, Zurich, Berlin and beyond.
As a church we are so much looking forward to heading out to the Jubilee in LA in July! We are hoping to get half the church out for that incredible family reunion where disciples from all over the world will come together to rejoice, to plan and to scheme in the Lord for the coming year.
We can’t wait to celebrate our 1st year anniversary at The Gathering in October only eight months from now! The brothers and sisters in Europe and beyond will descend upon London to celebrate with us all the blessings God has bestowed and to pray for the year ahead. I cant wait to see all the brothers and sisters that I miss so much!
Its certainly going to be a very exciting year ahead and like a little baby I plan on loving and nourishing this church as it blows me away with its thunderous little beating heart and strong little arms and legs. As cute and tiny as it is now one day it will be a fully grown Body of Christ and a formidable warrior submitted to God. This is truely becoming the church of my dreams and I have such an exciting vision for it. Please pray with us as we look forward to strengthening the church with everything we have.
Your brother,
Tim Kernan
